Frequently Asked Questions

To help you, the list also covers troubleshooting methods based on our experiences.

Please provide the following information:

  1. Finished sheet size
  2. Number of copies
  3. Date required if it’s a rush job
  4. 1-sided or 2-sided print
  5. Colour or black and white printing
  6. Finishing services (binding, varnishes, die-cutting, foiling, mounting, etc)
If you’ve already approved the price, please send a PDF of the artwork.
  1. Any print job should be exported as a high-quality PDF.
  2. All elements of the file should be in CMYK for digital printing (check images, swatches, logos, type, ect).
  3. Max ppi for images is 300 ppi. Lower ppi means lower quality.
  4. When exporting either embed links or outline text to prevent missing/unreadable links in print.

Our operator will preflight all jobs to ensure quality needs are met. You may request a physical proof before the final run of the job. If colour isn’t what you expected, try and check the following:

  1. The graphics/photos are CMYK before inserting them into the file.
  2. Export a high-quality PDF from Adobe PostScript.
  3. Match the correct printer settings to the paper stock. All paper stock will output differently.
  4. Images are a TIFF format at 300dpi.

Note: The colour you see on screen is different compared to other monitors. Monitors are RGB which have a wider gamut compared to CMYK and Pantone. Monitors also need to be calibrated but can change in different lighting.

For the best quality in your gradient try the following:

  1. Add noise to the gradient.
  2. Export gradient as a TIFF from Photoshop.
  3. Ensure that there are no Pantone colours.

Printers typically can’t print to the edge of the sheet which is why bleeds are used. Bleeds are then trimmed off to the requested sheet size.

  1. Bleeds should be at least 0.125″.
  2. Ensure that all art that you’d like to be up to the edge is extended into the bleed to avoid white lines around the edges after trimming.
  3. Because the sheet must be trimmed, have appropriate margins in place for text. Typically 0.375″ away from the cut size is a good amount.

We’re usually able to accommodate rush jobs. Check with us to see what services are required and how long the job needs to run. Be prepared to send a print ready file, and provide details on the job (cut size, paper stock, and if there’s any mounting or other finishing services required).

If you’re submitting a file for graphic designers to edit, ensure the following:

  1. If we must add/delete elements, usually a PDF works.
  2. For editing photos and text within the file, we require that you package the raw file (InDesign can package all the images and fonts so we can export the file without missing links).
Offset Digital
Ideal for larger runs. Inexpensive for smaller runs due to short set-up time and minimal waste.
Colour is the most consistent throughout the print run compared to digital. Can only print in CMYK.
Can print with Pantone ink. Colours can be calibrated as desired.
Our digital printers come with a finishing unit which hole punches and staples.
Print Web
300 ppi 72 ppi
CMYK RGB
File format: TIFF (stores all image information making a large file), or GIF (for anything up to 256 colours and for lossless compression). File Format: JPEG, or PNG (for graphics needing a translucent background, or requires minimal colours).
